The government wants to hand over the ownership and operation of this stretch to a private for-profit corporation. Let’s talk about how the Northeastern Corridor can have a safer and longer twinned highway.
Our government is planning to SELL OFF our safety to the lowest bidder. We are paying 67% more for 38 kilometres of private highway than it would cost to build it publicly.
A publicly built highway would get us all the way to the Town of Monastery for the same price. If the highway is built by private for-profit interests, we will only get 38 kilometres of twinned highway, instead of the 58 kilometres we would get if it’s built publicly.
We’ll lose 20 kilometres!
That’s highway robbery!
There is a way to build more kilometres of safe twinned highways: Build them as public highways.
